Absences

If your child is unwell or will not be attending school for any other reasons, please phone the school office on 01480 375321 as soon as possible to let them know. If no one is available to answer the phone please leave a message on the school answer machine.

Absences without explanation will be recorded as unauthorised. If your child has an appointment with the Dentist, Doctor, hospital, etc you will need to show the appointment card when collecting your child from the school office. Where possible please try and make appointments out of school time, we understand that this isn't always possible.

If no explanation or reason is given for your child's abscence the school office will phone to enquire of the whereabouts of your child for each day that they are absent.

Holidays taken during term time will not be given authorisation by the headteacher/school and will be recorded as an unauthorised absence. Repeated absences will be brought to the attention of the Education Welfare Officer ( EWO ) and in some circumstances the parents may be issued with a fine by the local LEA.

Children of school-age who are registered at a school must, by law, attend school regularly. Regular attendance is important, not just because the law requires it but because it is the best way of ensuring that a child makes the most of the educational opportunities which are available to him or her. There may be occasions when a child has to miss school - for example, if he or she is unwell. Any other absences should be kept to an absolute minimum.
