Pastoral Interventions

Sensory Circuits

Sensory circuits is a regular programme of specifically designed physical activities. These activities are intended to focus concentration and readiness for the days learning whilst also improving core strength, balance and coordination.

The session is currently run in the small hall in a child friendly, fun environment that promotes social and emotional development.

It is run by a dedicated team of staff: Mrs Cutbush, Miss Carroll and Mrs Smith.

During the session children will take part in various activities such as skipping, balancing, pushing, pulling and climbing.  Parents will be invited in to observe a sessions and there will be questionnaires to complete at the beginning, review points and end of the support.

Nurture Group

There are two nurture groups that run at Thongsley Fields.

One if Foundation Stage and Key Stage One, four mornings a week with Mrs Ambler and one in Key Stage Two after lunch with Mrs James.

This groups aim to provide children with a settled start to a morning/afternoon.  It supports children in developing social skills, collaborative working/playing skills as well as getting children to manage their emotions effectively.

Mrs James works with children across the school who would benefit for some 1:1 support.  She works with children around a number of different areas including anger management and developing their confidence and self esteem.

Play Therapy

Mrs Ambler works with children across the school who would benefit for some 1:1 support.  She also works with parents and children in filial play sessions.  Mrs Ambler works on children around a number of different areas and these are discussed with parents at an initial meeting before children begin their sessions.
