Welcome

Welcome to Nursery and Reception where children are exposed to a wealth of rich play opportunities that enable them to build and develop strong foundations for learning. There are 7 areas of learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). These are:

  • Communication and language
  • Physical development
  • Personal, social and emotional development
  • Literacy
  • Mathmatics
  • Understanding the world
  • Expressive arts and design

In the Early Years Foundation Stage children demonstrate their own Characteristics of Effective Learning which tell the practitioner what kind of a learner they are. We like to observe how they come up with ideas and how they solve problems for example. We have a continued focus on these characteristics throughout the duration of the EYFS. You can find out more about these by speaking to your childs teacher and we also consult with parents about these at each parent consulation evening.

Your child's progress will be reviewed when they're between 2 and 3. Their class teacher will assess them at the end of the school year when they turn 5. The assessment is based on ongoing classroom observations, which you can find in your child's Learning Journey. We really value home contributions so please fill out a parent post it or alternatively send in a photo.

Your child won't be tested! At the start of the year we focus on the theme 'All About Me' and we like to observe what the children already know and do. We also use this time to really get to know our children; their needs and their interests, so we can plan for individuals and groups. We assess using the Early Years Learning Goals, which can be found in the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework.

To help you understand a little more about how your child is learning and what you can do at home to help, we have included the following links at the bottom of the page
